Skroot Laboratory Inc. builds tools for cell-based manufacturing that enable faster routes to better quality product. ‘Skroot’ is an anglicized form of skrñt, which is Polish for shortcut. Our initial product is a wireless sensor system to quantify cells in closed bioreactors. Cells make many products (proteins, small molecules, DNA) and measuring their quantity is important to upstream biotherapeutic process developers. Careful counts enable them to make more rigorous models, reduce risk of progressing costly conditions/products, and reduce time to market. Additionally, the same wireless sensor system can be used by single use bioreactor (SUB) manufacturers to provide a unique feature for their end customers. Increasingly crucial upstream development is being done in smaller and smaller SUBs that do not provide the access or fluid volume required for existing measurement techniques. Skroot Lab was founded in 2018 and is supported by an NSF Phase I STTR grant.
